Community in Action: Meet the Arlington Police Department

Located in the north of Snohomish County is the city of Arlington that exists today because it “won” a 19th-century land feud against its neighbor, Haller City. It serves as a basecamp for the North Cascades, where the local municipal airport and the 30-mile Centennial Trail offer a mix of aviation history and deep-woods access.

We have been lucky enough to be partnering with Arlington, Washington Police Department since 2025 and we’re extremely excited to introduce them to you. 

The Department

The Arlington Police Department is a state-accredited agency led by Chief Jonathan Ventura, an FBI National Academy alumnus who has served the community since 2000. Operating under the core mission to preserve life, peace, and property, the department utilizes a regional service model—partnering with neighboring cities for jail and dispatch services—to maintain a lean and efficient force of 33 sworn officers. This professional team is supported by civilian staff and a dedicated Police Service Officer who handles specialized tasks like animal control and code enforcement to ensure the city remains a safe hub for North Snohomish County.

To combat rising crime trends, Chief Ventura champions the “All-In” campaign, a community-driven initiative that encourages residents to become active partners in public safety. This proactive approach relies on shared responsibility, urging citizens to safeguard their property and report suspicious activity while officers focus on innovative problem-solving and high-target locations. By blending modern policing techniques with a century-old history of service, the department strives to maintain the public trust through a transparent partnership with the families and businesses that call Arlington home.

Their BlueBridge Program

The Arlington Police Department’s adoption of the BlueBridge Alliance program is a natural extension of its “All-In” campaign and regional service philosophy. In a growing city that serves as a commercial and residential hub, officers often encounter immediate, non-criminal crises—such as a stranded traveler or a family in distress—that traditional policing isn’t equipped to solve. BlueBridge bridges this gap by providing officers with pre-loaded debit cards, allowing them to bypass bureaucratic red tape and provide instant relief like fuel, a hot meal, or emergency lodging.

The program is currently overseen by Commander Peter Barrett, whose leadership ensures the initiative remains a core component of the department’s community outreach. This program fits Arlington specifically because it decentralizes authority, empowering individual officers to make high-impact decisions on the spot. Since the funds are raised through local donations from Arlington residents and businesses, it creates a “closed-loop” of community support where neighbors are directly helping neighbors through the hands of the police, turning every interaction into an opportunity for meaningful connection.

Stories from the Street

The impact of this partnership is best seen through the eyes of the officers on patrol:

• Escaping the Cold: Officers recently assisted an unhoused individual bound to a knee scooter who was struggling in the wet, freezing weather. Using BlueBridge, they secured a motel room for the night, ensuring the individual was safe and warm before connecting them with shelter resources the following morning.
• Compassion Over Conflict: After responding to a report of a suspicious motorhome, an officer discovered the occupant was simply down on his luck and hungry. Rather than a standard move-along, the officer provided a hot meal and water, then connected the individual with the department’s outreach team for long-term support.
• A Lifeline on I-5: When a specialized lift vehicle for powered wheelchairs broke down on the interstate, officers coordinated with the Silvana Fire Department to get the disabled passengers to safety. They utilized BlueBridge to arrange a specialized taxi service, ensuring the passengers and their equipment made it home safely.
