Every month, we shine a spotlight on a BlueBridge Participating Officer (PO), sharing their invaluable experiences with the program. These officers are hand-picked by BlueBridge Alliance headquarters based on their exceptional use of the program. For June, we’re thrilled to introduce Officer Gregorio Alvarado.
Officer Alvarado has served with the Moses Lake Police Department for four years, dedicating three of those years to the BlueBridge program. His commitment earned him the “Bridge Builder” award from BlueBridge Headquarters for 2024, an honor equivalent to the agency’s program MVP. Officer Alvarado consistently embodies the BlueBridge mission in every interaction he makes.
One of Officer Alvarado’s most impactful BlueBridge interactions was also one of his very first. While on nightly patrol of local parks, he encountered a vehicle with a woman and two children inside. He immediately noticed she had been crying and, upon asking what was wrong, she confided she had just left her home due to a serious fight with her boyfriend, making her feel unsafe. Officer Alvarado believed her intention was to sleep in the car with her children. He promptly offered to secure a hotel stay for them, ensuring they had a safe place for the night.
“This was an eye opener,” Officer Alvarado shared. “This was the first purchase that I initiated without having to respond to a call. I realized a simple contact could turn into a difference and provide safety to someone who wasn’t wanting to call the police.”
He frequently leverages BlueBridge to connect with the community in ways that were previously inaccessible. In another instance, he responded to a domestic dispute where he quickly realized the man and woman’s anger stemmed from hunger. He used BlueBridge to provide them with a much-needed meal. “They apologized for their attitudes and we did not have any problems with them afterwards,” Officer Alvarado recounted. “I believe if I didn’t have the capability to use BlueBridge, the situation wouldn’t have been resolved as quick or as kindly as it did.”
We are incredibly proud to feature Officer Alvarado as one of our Participating Officers and deeply grateful for his diligent work with BlueBridge. His dedication truly exemplifies the BlueBridge mission by consistently enabling officers to offer a helping hand and forge crucial community relationships. He excels at bridging the gap between law enforcement and the communities they serve, fostering trust and a sense of belonging through his compassionate and timely assistance.
