Meet the Chief: Scott Engle, Puyallup PD

How Puyallup Police Chief Scott Engle is Bridging the Gap in Community Care

Leading with Heart and Partnership in Puyallup

We are thrilled to introduce you to the leader of the Puyallup Police Department, Chief Scott Engle. With a career spanning over 25 years and a deep-rooted love for the “Land of Generous People,” Chief Engle is a champion for both his officers and the community they protect.

A Career Built on Local Roots

Chief Engle’s journey in law enforcement began in 1998 with the Sumner Police Department. In 2001, he joined the Puyallup PD, where he has spent the last two decades building a “full and blessed career.” His transition to leadership was driven by a clear, singular focus: stewardship.

“I was inspired to become Chief from a desire to take care of our staff, and our community,” Chief Engle shares. “I love Puyallup and enjoy doing my part to ensure a safe, livable, and enjoyable community.”

A Culture of Excellence and Community Support

For Chief Engle, the strength of the department lies entirely in its people. He views his team as the gold standard of the profession—not just for their tactical skills, but for their genuine care for the city.

However, he is the first to admit that the police department is only one half of the equation. He credits the department’s success to the Puyallup partnership:

  • The Team: “They are the best our profession has to offer… they care, they work hard, and they love this city.”
  • The Community: “PPD can’t do it alone and our community supports us. It means so much to our team.”

The BlueBridge Impact: Helping Officers “Save the Day”

Chief Engle sees the BlueBridge Alliance program as a natural extension of the Puyallup PD vision. In law enforcement, officers often encounter “unique circumstances”—situations where traditional policing tools don’t quite fit the human need.

BlueBridge provides the resources for officers to step in and solve immediate, life-altering problems on the spot. Whether it is providing emergency housing or a hot meal, these acts of service align perfectly with the department’s core values.

“We have been able to help people with emergency housing and food—basic needs of life that you wish no one truly needed help with,” says Chief Engle. “We couldn’t do it without BlueBridge as it allows us to make a tangible and meaningful difference for someone in need. That’s worth its weight in gold.

Support the Mission in Puyallup

The BlueBridge program relies on the generosity of the community to keep this “gold” standard of service moving forward. By donating to the Puyallup-specific fund, you ensure that when a local officer encounters someone in a moment of crisis, they have the immediate means to help.

How you can help: Your contributions stay local, providing food, clothing, and emergency shelter to those in our neighborhoods who need it most.

We are incredibly proud to partner with Chief Engle and the entire Puyallup Police Department. Their commitment to turning compassion into action ensures that Puyallup remains a safe and supportive place for everyone.
