When a call came in from a man in urgent need, our team listened — and responded with compassion. He was a U.S. military veteran who was in the process of relocating to escape an unstable living situation. Living on a fixed income and with very limited resources, he had reached out to multiple agencies seeking help — but received no assistance. Desperate and out of options, he contacted law enforcement asking for support with something many of us take for granted: enough gas to get to safety. [Our officers] spoke with the man and at great length he detailed his situation and his future plans. Thanks to the BlueBridge fund, we were able to step in and provide a gas gift card — a small gesture that had a powerful impact. The veteran was incredibly appreciative, expressing heartfelt gratitude for the support he received from law enforcement. In a moment when he felt invisible, he was seen, heard, and helped. This act of kindness not only gave him the help he needed — it also strengthened the trust between our officers and the community we serve. It’s a clear example of how BlueBridge funds empower us to go beyond traditional policing, building stronger partnerships through empathy, responsiveness, and respect.

Recipient's son was a runaway and located in Oregon. The PD in Oregon made arrangements for temporary housing in a Juvenile Facility. Arrangements to get him back to WA could not be made and required recipient to get a ride down to Oregon and back to pick him up. Recipient found a friend to drive her but she did not have funds for fuel for the trip. Pre-paid card was purchased so fuel could be purchased along the way as needed.

Came across vehicle in parking lot of local business complex during early morning hours. Observed adult female in driver's seat. I ran the plate and saw the registered owner was a female who I had contact with earlier in the week. At that time the female was in a state of crisis and living in a hotel room. I contacted her at the vehicle and she indicated she was no longer at the hotel, living in her car, and didn't know where to go. She also stated her vehicle was almost out of fuel and needed to at least have the car on for heat. I used the BlueBridge card to top off her vehicle. She was very appreciative and became more optimistic that she could handle her current situation and find better housing options.

Contact with a male who was homeless and lived in his vehicle. I contacted the male via phone and listened to his personal story. The male had grown up in the Wenatchee valley before attending the University of Washington. The male graduated with his bachelor’s degree in biology. The male and I both attended the school around similar times but never came into contact. The male had hopes of going into the medical field before suffering an injury. Medications prescribed after the surgery resulted in an addiction to pain killers. Unfortunately, the male’s addiction led him into Fentanyl use. The male took it upon himself to ask for Law Enforcement’s help. The male wished to go to a Recovery Center but was unable to gather the funds for transportation. I used my department-issued Bluebridge card to purchase the male a Greyhound bus ticket. The encounter changed my perspective for the better and reminded me that helping people is the reason I chose Law Enforcement. I requested the male stay in touch and keep me updated on his recovery journey.
